Did you know that biochar can help to amend the garden and improve your soil’s health?
Join us to learn about the many uses of this type of charcoal, and how it is an opportunity to close the carbon cycle in your garden by returning organic materials back to the soil.
This beginner-friendly workshop will teach gardeners and land stewards all about biochar and its incredible potential!
In this class, we will:
Discuss the basics of soil health
Explore the uses of biochar in the organic garden and beyond
Go over the making process, techniques, equipment, and safety
Gain practical, hands-on experience making biochar
This in-person workshop will take place outdoors at The Heron’s Nest in West Seattle, and include a combination of show-and-tell, lecture, and hands-on practice.
We will prepare the materials together, assemble them in the kiln and demonstrate the burning process.
Participants will take a small sample home with information about how to use it in the garden!
Please note that this class will include the biochar-making process, which involves burning brush and other woody trimmings outdoors. If you are sensitive to smoke exposure, we recommend a high-quality mask.
