Native traditions around the globe celebrate the winter solstice by honoring what gives life:
Connection, community, light, darkness, abundance, and ancestors.
They gather and celebrate much like we do in the mainstream: with food, ceremony, dance, song, play, art, and gift-giving.
Gift-giving is the piece that we have been pushed to hyper-focus on. It’s the element that capitalism managed to exploit at the expense of all others.
The true gift is being well and in communion - With each other and the land.
The physical gifts are not the mean. They are the symbol.
Description:
An online workshop series to learn how to reduce environmental harm and divest from systems of oppression during the holiday season.
11/21/24 Harm-Less Holiday Meals
12/5/24 Harm-Less Holiday Gifting
Let’s opt out of this shopping push! Let’s divest oppressive systems by reclaiming the holiday gift-giving tradition.
This radical act can start with reclaiming our celebrations and bringing kindness and awareness to how we practice being in community.
This workshop aims to support the community in feeling empowered to engage with the climate crisis and resist systems of oppression in ways beyond direct action.
This work will heal and cultivate a sense of wholeness - states that will serve us as we divest from systems that deliberately act to disrupt and exploit.
