This is a beach walk! Under the sun on the Salish Sea. Living on Duwamish land means water is everywhere. People of place thrived through a living relationship with this sacred element. These walks are a step towards learning how to cultivate this relationship.
We're going to do this through sensory relating with the landscape and seascape. Through practicing how to meet a new being. What's the habit of the sea? Who lives here? What do they eat? Who eats them? What's that's squishy thing??? If you thought the forest is full of wonder on fractalling dimensions, wait till you come to beach.
Things to know:
Rule #1: We're going to be on the beach. In the elements. There is wind, direct sun, sand, rocks, mushy things, sharp things, and hella water. If you want to get in there and have a rich experience, you're gonna get wet, dirty, and a worn. Being feral is human af. You're invited to be as feral as your body and spirit are calling.
-Footwear: Any shoes or no shoes would work, but keep rule #1 in mind as you choose. Sandals or water shoes are ideal!
-Pants/Bottoms: Wear ones that allow you to comfortably get knee deep in the water
-Protect yourself from sun. People use stuff like hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, sunblock.
-Parking: Seahurst has an upper lot, uphill that is a 10 minute walk from the beach. There is a small lower lot. If the parking angels are with you, you might nab one of these primo spots.
-Folks are invited to arrive early or stay late to get some more beach medicine. Picnic? I might join you depending on my capacity.
-Arriving late? Calling me is your best bet to find us 206-742-8989. We usually walk the paved path north (right) then step on the beach and comb our way south
A safe space for QTBIPOC and queer folks to come walk with us, especially if this is your first Trillium event.
For culture healing through relational learning and orienting ourselves as part of the natural world 🌍. A politicized container to weave power and address systemic injustice.
As always, this is a container to honor land, heal culture, connect, and expand towards justice and wellness for all.
I offer these walks in the greater context of engaging with the today’s crises: climate, ecological, and human people.
In our urban lives, hypnotized by modern culture, we are disconnected from what truly nurtures us. How can we care and prioritize something, someone from whom we are disconnected?
Wilderness is not only a place “out there, far from here”.
Wilderness is everywhere. In us, around us, and on a downtown concrete block.
When we got confused about how we are part and not apart, the destruction began.
The wilderness of our towns and cities diminished.
We have been blessed with the ability to witness this wilderness and be in choice about how to connect and nurture it.
We gather and immerse ourselves in the embrace of nature. To give our loving attention. To experience life a little deeper, a little slower. We invite our inner children out with their curiosity and play. We do it with intention and with others who also want to tune in to our source. This is an act of mutual healing💚✨
This container is also political. We see healing and reconnecting with nature as a radical act of resistance. To bring awareness to this ultimate source of sustenance and to the forces that exploit and destroy it. Our work is to recognize that the struggle for protecting Mother Earth is inseparable from the struggle for liberation.
The walks will flow in pace and activities based on the moods of the group, the season, and the land.
